Just Us Girls Challenge #524 - Photo Week - Guest Designer and Essentials by Ellen Subbing In and Porthole Shadow Box Card

When I saw the inspiration photo for the Just Us Girls Challenge I knew that Essentials by Ellen Subbing In by Brandi Kinkaid Stamps and Subbing In by Brandi Kinkaid Dies and Porthole Dies were the perfect match! Thank you Ellen for giving me these wonderful presents! And thank you to JUGS for once again having me as a guest designer!

I look forward to seeing how this photo inspires you!

Please make sure to check out all the wonderful cards the JUGS team made: Carol, Sue, Angie, Vickie, Ina, Bobby, Nancy, Lisa, Maria, and Cécile.

In case you want to make a similar shadow box card here is what I did (instructions then photo to follow).
1. Cut a piece of Canson Bristol or Neenah Solar White 110 lb. cardstock 4 by 9 1/2 inches.
2. Ink blend your background and add splatters.  Rather than the usual splatter with water I used reinkers for my splatter so they would be dark.
3. Score the panel after ink blending at 3/4 inch and 8 3/4 inches. I score after ink blending so extra ink doesn't collect at the scoring line and I get a smoother blend.

3. Cut a piece of Canson Bristol or Neenah Solar White 110 lb. cardstock 1 1/2 by 9 inches. Handcut some hill shapes. I used my Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside borders as a guide for all my hill shapes and just modified them a bit. Ink blend with brown inks and score at 1/2 inch and 8 1/2 inches. My front piece is 1 1/8 inch at its highest point.
4. Cut a piece of Canson Bristol or Neenah Solar White 110 lb. cardstock 1 3/4  by 8 1/2 inches. Handcut your hill shape, ink blend with your brown inks and then score at 1/4 and 8 1/4 inches. My back piece is 1 3/8 inches at its highest point.
5. Diecut and color all your images.  I used my Zigs.

I colored the border left by the die on most of the images except for the adorable little octopus.
6.  Cut a piece of bright blue cardstock that matches your scene 4 by 9 1/2 inches and score at 3/4 and 8 3/4 inches.
7. Die cut a window opening and you can extend the opening by die cutting twice and just sliding the die over, making sure it is lined up with your previous cut.  Make sure to leave a spot for a sentiment. I left a 3/4 inch space at the bottom for my sentiment. And the top border of the card is 3/8 inch.

8. Arrange your scene.
9. Use strong adhesive to adhere your shadow box together. I line up my 2 hillsides to one edge of the back of the shadow box, see below.  Then I fold the back part of the shadow box down.

10. Then I lay the 2 hillside pieces flat and adhere them together.
And here is what you want to do what I am not showing in the photo below. I left a gap at the right side between the hillsides and the score line at the right of the card.  I needed to pull my card apart and move the brown hillsides farther to the right so they touched the score line.
Then I fold the back part of my shadow box down.
11. If the back of your card looks like mine did after ink blending it add a 4 by 8 inch piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock.  I used 110 lb. for stability.
12.  Now adhere all your parts and pieces.  I used glue for most parts and 2 layers of foam tape for my yellow submarine.  And yes, I could not resist making him yellow:)

And here is a bonus card I made because I had made a practice background and liked it so much I couldn't waste it.

And please drop by the Just Us Girls Challenge  and enter your card!
And if you made it to the end, thank you for hanging in here the whole way:)

I hope you can go make a card and have fun today!
Betty

That background is gorgeous with the sunlight shining down through the water and I love all of your little fish and vegetation that the submarine is surrounded by. That octopus is darling. 1. Thank you Vicki, it has been a lot of fun! I have sure enjoyed the themes to stimulate my creativity. So many times I just sit down with a set I want to use and see where it goes, but having a theme sure brings me along in a direction I likely would not usually go. Thank you again for having me as guest!

    1. Nancy, you make me smile. Just ask my husband how patient I am sometimes, lol. But I guess, yes, doing a bit of fiddly stuff is okay with me. I have lived my life rushing, but then I got sick I don't and can't really rush much anymore. Let's just say I am not a quilter, but card making is just right! Thank you for your kindness, once again.

Colored Cardstock versus Comic Markers with Altenew Rose Flurries 3D Die Set

I made 2 cards with the Altenew Rose Flurries 3D Die Set , one using colored cardstock and one using copic markers to color white cardstock. These cards are inspired by the Altenew November 2019 Inspiration Challenge. For my first card I pulled out all my miscellaneous colored cardstock that matched the inspiration challenge colors.  I was short a couple of colors so I blended some ink onto my darkest color to deepen the color for the last layer to die cut. I die cut all my layers, but this is where I ran into a few problems. I had mixed up wrong colors for some of the layers of the flowers.  (I was curious to try a different method so that prompted the second card.) Once I had re-die cut the missing layers I glued all my pieces together and glued them onto a cream color A2 sized card and stamped my sentiment which is from the Altenew Build a Flower Sakura Blossom  stamp set.     For my second card I use the layering guide provided by Altenew and organized all the

Watercolor Altenew Golden Garden

I could not resist making another card with the extra images I had stamped and embossed for my last card, from the Altenew Golden Garden stamp set! And for inspiration in design for today's card I used the February 2020 Altenew Inspiration Challenge and the Flower Challenge #41 "Add Leaves". I am joining these challenges with today's card. If you would like more on how I watercolor or arrange my florals, my last post was made with the same stamp set and the same general method.  I include a video on my watercoloring in my recent post. I used different colors and arranged the florals in a different pattern. You can find it here: Watercoloring Altenew's Golden Garden Stamp Set      Thank you for stopping by! Have a great day! Just Us Girls Challenge #521 - Word Week - Bow - Guest Designer

I am super thrilled to be a guest designer at  the Just Us Girls Challenge #521 where the word week theme is "bow".  To avoid having to tie a bow I had to pull out an old Whipper Snapper Designs stamp called Birthday Angel to find a bow (or 2). In saying that I may be telling me age, lol, given how old that stamp is.   Please make sure to check out all the wonderful cards the JUGS team made: Carol, Sue , Angie, Vickie, Ina, Bobby, Nancy, Lisa, Maria, and Cécile . And please drop by the Just Us Girls Challenge #521  and enter your "bow" card!   I look forward to being back at JUGS again next week!  As a teaser, my card will include watercoloring and an Altenew stamp set.    Thank you for stopping by!
