The Male Room Challenge #131 - Team Colors - Guest Designer MFT Slider Card

Colored Cardstock versus Comic Markers with Altenew Rose Flurries 3D Die Set

I made 2 cards with the Altenew Rose Flurries 3D Die Set, one using colored cardstock and one using copic markers to color white cardstock. These cards are inspired by the Altenew November 2019 Inspiration Challenge.

For my first card I pulled out all my miscellaneous colored cardstock that matched the inspiration challenge colors.  I was short a couple of colors so I blended some ink onto my darkest color to deepen the color for the last layer to die cut.
I die cut all my layers, but this is where I ran into a few problems. I had mixed up wrong colors for some of the layers of the flowers.  (I was curious to try a different method so that prompted the second card.) Once I had re-die cut the missing layers I glued all my pieces together and glued them onto a cream color A2 sized card and stamped my sentiment which is from the Altenew Build a Flower Sakura Blossom stamp set.

For my second card I use the layering guide provided by Altenew and organized all the dies for each layer that would be colored the same color on plain white cardstock.  I had previously labelled each die to coordinate with each flower so I knew which shape belonged with which flower, what level it would sit and what color I needed to add to the white cardstock. The purple flowers on the guide below made in the peach tones. And I made the rest in the pink tones.

I die cut my pieces and added a few extra leaves and flowers. I used my copic markers to color all the layers.  I left a few of the very small flowers white, to color when I was assembling my card, dependent on what I think the card needed to finish it off.

I assembled all my flowers and leaves, gluing them together. I planned my layout for my A2 sized card, on white cardstock, using my tweezers and "pokey tool".
Finally, I glued all the pieces in place and stamped my sentiment. By the way, I love the sentiments that come with the Altenew Build a Flower Sakura Blossom stamp set.
Reasons I prefer using white cardstock over colored cardstock with layered die cuts:
1. You don't need to have so many colors of cardstock.
2. You can use things to color the white cardstock you already have, such as any markers, ink pads or watercolor paints.
3. I already know some of my favorite colors that go together and picking them out is quick and simple.
3.  I find it easier to keep track of what color I need to use for each die cut layer when I divide the dies by color and then add the color after die cutting.
4.  I did not need to use purple tape to hold the dies in place.

I am entering the second card that used the copic coloring in the Altenew November 2019 Inspiration Challenge because I like the vibrant colors on the crisp white cardstock.  Do you have a favorite between the 2?  If you do, please leave me a comment.  I would love to know what you preferred.
Thank you for stopping by!
I hope that you can go make a card and have some fun today!

  1. I love both cards but the one you coloured from white does appear to be more vibrant. I have a layered set from Altenew and spent like a day cutting all these colours out and still managed to stuff things up so I think the idea of white that can be coloured later is a great idea. Thanks so much for sharing

    1. I am so glad I am not the only one, LOL. I thought it would be equally as simple either way, but I sure had an easier time with the white card stock. I will watch for your card. It will be fun to know which colors you put together!

  3. A duo of gorgeous cards, Betty! Your copic-coloured one does 'tip the scales' a bit as being preferred: more vibrant and, definitely, more 'user friendly' than having oodles of cardstock on hand. Your tips/techniques are wonderful! Have to give this a try next time I'm playing with layering dies!

  13. I love both cards. Thank you for the tip on how to layer the die cuts, I have this set but have not used it as I found it daunting as to which layer goes with a particular layered set. I will follow your guide and labelling if you don’t mind. I have also started following your blog. Thanks for the inspiration.

    1. Thank you so much Clarissa. I get what you mean about this set seeming a bit daunting. I shared my process in hopes that is helps someone. I hope it helps you! The first card I made with it I had multiple extras of the wrong color for certain layers and none of another color. I was going to post my process with the first try but as it didn't work well for me I tried again. Thus, the comparison. I do find that labeling the dies in relation to the guide provided sure helps. That is sweet of you to follow my blog. I am interested if following me actually worked, because others have tried and it did not work. And for some reason you have not shown up to have followed. I wonder if you will get an email on my next post. If you don't mind letting me know if it works I would appreciate it. For some reason I think something may not be working right on my blog??? Thank you! xx

    2. Clarissa, do you mind me asking, have you received an email notification from me when I post. I finally think I got things working better today by messing with my blog. I changed my subscribe from the top of the screen to a different way of subscribing with a "follow by email" at the side of the screen. I have been talking to "I Card Everyone", Michele, and she had to hit the follow by email and resubmit and now gets my notifications by email. I hope you had a great day!

  15. Thank you so much for this post! I don't reach for this die set often, as I am intimidated by the multiple layers. I shall follow your method. Your cards are so beautiful and vibrant. Thanks again.

Watercolor Altenew Golden Garden

I could not resist making another card with the extra images I had stamped and embossed for my last card, from the Altenew Golden Garden stamp set! And for inspiration in design for today's card I used the February 2020 Altenew Inspiration Challenge and the Flower Challenge #41 "Add Leaves". I am joining these challenges with today's card. If you would like more on how I watercolor or arrange my florals, my last post was made with the same stamp set and the same general method.  I include a video on my watercoloring in my recent post. I used different colors and arranged the florals in a different pattern. You can find it here: Watercoloring Altenew's Golden Garden Stamp Set      Thank you for stopping by! Have a great day! Just Us Girls Challenge #521 - Word Week - Bow - Guest Designer

I am super thrilled to be a guest designer at  the Just Us Girls Challenge #521 where the word week theme is "bow".  To avoid having to tie a bow I had to pull out an old Whipper Snapper Designs stamp called Birthday Angel to find a bow (or 2). In saying that I may be telling me age, lol, given how old that stamp is.   Please make sure to check out all the wonderful cards the JUGS team made: Carol, Sue , Angie, Vickie, Ina, Bobby, Nancy, Lisa, Maria, and Cécile . And please drop by the Just Us Girls Challenge #521  and enter your "bow" card!   I look forward to being back at JUGS again next week!  As a teaser, my card will include watercoloring and an Altenew stamp set.    Thank you for stopping by!
