No Line Watercoloring the Essentials by Ellen Mondo Amaryllis

I watercolored the Essentials by Ellen Mondo Amaryllis. 
It is a wonderful new addition to the mondo collection of flowers and is amazing to watercolor.

I remember every Christmas our Mom would have brought an amaryllis bulb out which she had stored to somehow, miraculously to me, make it bloom at just the right time.  And there was always the suspense before it opened on how many flowers would be on it that year.  This image is a fond reminder of those days!

Tips:
  • When painting petals of this size I paint one petal at a time. After letting it dry I add a second layer for the detail.
  • I mixed a bit of Sepia with Quinacridone Coral to soften the coral boldness.  I used Payne's Gray for the drop shadow.
  • I used a white gouache with a bit of Payne's Gray for the stamens. The opaque nature of the gouache allowed me to cover the under layer of painting.
  • If you are thinking of buying the Daniel Smith watercolors and will only use them for small images such as card making, a little goes a long way.  I find the 5 ml tubes more than adequate.  Then I can purchase a few more colors.  But if you happen to get the 15 ml tubes it allows for some trading and sharing with friends.

Colored Cardstock versus Comic Markers with Altenew Rose Flurries 3D Die Set

I made 2 cards with the Altenew Rose Flurries 3D Die Set , one using colored cardstock and one using copic markers to color white cardstock. These cards are inspired by the Altenew November 2019 Inspiration Challenge. For my first card I pulled out all my miscellaneous colored cardstock that matched the inspiration challenge colors.  I was short a couple of colors so I blended some ink onto my darkest color to deepen the color for the last layer to die cut. I die cut all my layers, but this is where I ran into a few problems. I had mixed up wrong colors for some of the layers of the flowers.  (I was curious to try a different method so that prompted the second card.) Once I had re-die cut the missing layers I glued all my pieces together and glued them onto a cream color A2 sized card and stamped my sentiment which is from the Altenew Build a Flower Sakura Blossom  stamp set.     For my second card I use the layering guide provided by Altenew and organized all the

Just Us Girls Challenge #521 - Word Week - Bow - Guest Designer

I am super thrilled to be a guest designer at  the Just Us Girls Challenge #521 where the word week theme is "bow".  To avoid having to tie a bow I had to pull out an old Whipper Snapper Designs stamp called Birthday Angel to find a bow (or 2). Gerda Steiner Go Wild and Party Animals Shadow Box Card

I can't tell you how much fun I am having pulling out stamp sets I have had for a while including Gerda Steiner's Go Wild and Party Animals stamps. Look at those adorable eyes on all those cute critters! I thought, "they need to all be loaded on one card for maximum cuteness impact" (it ended up to be most but not quite all of the images). Here is what I came up with.   I am joining a few challenges with this card including: Gerda Steiner Share Your Design Challenge , Inkspirational Challenges , Just Us Girls Challenge , and The Male Room Challenge .  In case you want to make a similar card here is what I did (instructions then photo to follow): 1. Cut 2 pieces of white 80 lb. cardstock 4 1/2 by 9 inches. 2. Score each at 1/2 and 4 inches on the 4 1/2 inch width. 3. Cut or die cut a 2 7/8 by 6 /12 inch window, 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of one panel.  4. Fold at the scored lines. 5. Cut light blue cardstock 4 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches. 6. Score at 1/
